La nostra storia

In un’epoca di turismo di massa, comprendere il valore del paesaggio sonoro e il nostro ruolo di ascoltatori è fondamentale.

Silenzi in Quota nasce nel 2021 a Trento (Italia) con una serie di spedizioni volte a immortalare l’ambiente acustico e visivo di paesaggi suggestivi ad alta quota attraverso immagini, filmati e registrazioni.

Catturare la percezione umana: nel 2022 il progetto è cresciuto per ampliare il proprio impatto. Silenzi in Quota si è aperto al pubblico, iniziando a camminare e ascoltare insieme alle persone per testimoniare l'esperienza attraverso questionari e registrazioni: nasce così Silenzi in Quota Experience. Aggiungendo le componenti di coinvolgimento pubblico e ricerca, Silenzi in Quota guida i partecipanti nell'ascolto e nella registrazione della propria esperienza — una pratica di soundscape che dovrebbe essere alla base delle politiche di turismo sostenibile in ambienti naturali fragili.

Nel 2023 Silenzi in Quota diventa internazionale. Grazie a una collaborazione con la University College London (UCL), il progetto sbarca in Scozia per esplorare il paesaggio sonoro in una delle zone più spettacolari del Parco Nazionale dei Cairngorms: Silenzi in Scotland! Silenzi in Quota ha ospitato con orgoglio appassionati di paesaggi sonori, sound artist, ingegneri del suono, acustici, personale dei parchi nazionali, ranger, accademici ed escursionisti entusiasti, uniti nelle spedizioni e nell'ascolto per diffondere l'importanza della gestione degli ambienti acustici.

Il 25 ottobre 2023, presso il Palazzo di Westminster a Londra, Silenzi in Quota è stato insignito del prestigioso John Connell Soundscape Award (Highly Commended) durante la notte dei "Noise Oscars".

"I John Connell Awards portano il nome del lungimirante fondatore della NAS, John Connell OBE, che ottenne l'approvazione del Noise Abatement Act in Parlamento nel 1960, anno in cui il rumore divenne per la prima volta un disturbo perseguibile per legge nel Regno Unito. Questi premi unici, noti come gli 'Oscar del Rumore', riconoscono l'importanza della qualità del suono nelle nostre vite e promuovono progressi vitali nel ridurre l'impatto negativo del rumore non necessario, valorizzando paesaggi sonori benefici per la salute pubblica". "Questo premio riconosce l'avanzamento dei principi del paesaggio sonoro in linea con gli standard ISO e le loro applicazioni pratiche nel mondo reale."

Our Story

In times of mass tourism, understanding the value of soundscape and our role as listeners is crucial.

Silenzi in Quota was created in 2021 in Trento (Italy) with a series of expeditions to immortalize the acoustic and visual environment of scenic landscapes at high altitudes through images, films and recordings.

Capturing human perception - the project grew in 2022 to further increase its impact, Silenzi in Quota opens up and starts walking and listening with people so to witness this through questionnaires and recordings: Silenzi in Quota Experience. By adding the public engagement and research components, Silenzi in Quota guides participants to listen and record their experience, a soundscape practice that should be the basis of sustainable tourism policies in fragile natural environments.

In 2023 Silenzi in Quota becomes international. Through a collaboration with University College London (UCL), Silenzi in Quota goes to Scotland to investigate the soundscape in one of the most beautiful areas of the Cairngorms National Park: Silenzi in Scotland! Silenzi in Quota has proudly hosted soundscape enthusiasts, sound artists, sound engineers, acousticians, national park staff, rangers, academics and enthusiastic hikers joining the expeditions and listening together to further spread the importance of managing acoustic environments.

Silenzi in Quota has been awarded the Highly Commended John Connell Soundscape Award 2023 on 25 October at the Palace of Westminster in London, during the 'Noise Oscars' night. 

‘The John Connell Awards are named after NAS’s far-sighted founder John Connell OBE, who lobbied the Noise Abatement Act through Parliament in 1960 when noise became a statutory nuisance in the UK for the first time. These unique awards, known as the ‘Noise Oscars’, acknowledge the importance of the quality of sound in our lives, and champion vital advances in reducing the negative impact of unnecessary noise and health-promoting soundscapes for the public benefit.’

‘This award recognizes the advancement of soundscape principles in line with the ISO soundscape standards and their practical ‘real world’ applications.’
